To say that the Phoenix's unveiling garnered some interest would be an understatement! Special arrangements were made to ensure the secure visits of dignitaries and civil visitors in the morning, with parents and families arriving in the afternoon. All our guests throughout the day, whether they were a local lord or one of the pupils' aunts, applauded what the young workers had been able to achieve.

When we had a break for lunch, Michael Morpurgo gave us a stirring speech to declare the new learning space open. Finally, the children sang the song they'd written to officially bring the Phoenix into Stoke-on-Trent, breathing new life and passion for creative learning into a school, and- judging by today's turnout- a whole community.
